Next planned Slovakian elections in 2020, but mass protests after the murder of a journalist call for early elections

The next Slovakian parliamentary election are planned to be held in 2020. The political crisis, triggered by the murder of a journalist and his girlfriend led to mass protests and the resignation of Prime Minister Fico.

In Slovakia, there are 150 seats in the Parliament up for election. In the previous election in 2016, the Social Democratic Party Smer - SD won the most votes and formed a government with the nationalist SNS and the Hungarian minority party Most-Hid and the centre-right Network (Siet). Robert Fico from the Smer - SD was reelected as Prime Minister.
